This SteamSpa 9 kW steam shower generator turns a sealed shower enclosure of about 84 to 140 ft³ into a home steam room, and it suits a connected steam shower where you control steam, light and music from a wireless remote or your phone.

The wireless controller works from anywhere in the room: wake it, press power and the generator fills and heats its tank, then sends steam into the shower. You set the room temperature from 50°F to 130°F and the steam time from 1 to 60 minutes, three user presets (U1, U2 and U3) store each person's favorite session, and the same controller switches the color lights and the Bluetooth music. When the room reaches your temperature the steam stops. The SteamSpa app adds control from your phone over a 2.4 GHz WiFi network.

Sized for 84 to 140 ft³ Showers

SteamSpa's sizing chart lists 9 kW for cabins from 3' x 4' x 7' (84 ft³) through 3' x 5' x 7' (105 ft³), 4' x 4' x 7' (112 ft³) and 3' x 6' x 7' (126 ft³) up to 4' x 5' x 7' (140 ft³). SteamSpa adds that it is safe, and even recommended, to choose one size step above what the chart shows. At 9 kW the generator suits a mid-size walk-in shower or a shower with a bench, and because the steam is produced outside the enclosure, the shower itself only needs its steamheads, a control and a properly sealed enclosure. If the generator will sit more than 10' to 15' from the steam room, SteamSpa recommends going 1 to 2 kW higher to keep the steam flow up.

Bluetooth Audio and Chroma Lighting

Sound and light are part of the package: built-in stereo speakers play music, podcasts or audiobooks from your phone over Bluetooth, and two chroma bath lights and LED illumination set the mood or simply light the room. Steam enters the shower through oil rubbed bronze steamheads in solid steel with built-in aroma reservoirs.

Teflon Elements, Steel Steamheads, Relief Valve and AutoDrain

The heating elements are Teflon coated, which SteamSpa says resists scale and corrosion and outlasts traditional brass elements. The built-in AutoDrain opens once the timer has ended, or the system has been switched off, and stayed off for 2 hours, then empties the tank so minerals do not sit in standing water. The generator measures 15.75" W x 6.30" D x 14.57" H and holds 160 in³ of water, building steam at 4 psi, and a pressure relief valve opens automatically if the tank pressure ever passes 15 psi. The generator has a hanging groove for wall mounting and must be installed level, so its water level sensor reads correctly.

Power, Plumbing and Placement

Plan the power and plumbing before the walls close. At 9 kW the generator draws 38A at 240V single phase on 8 AWG copper wire, with its own breaker and a power disconnect within sight of the unit, and it can sit in a closet behind the shower, a vanity cabinet, the attic or the basement, as long as it stays indoors, dry, protected from freezing and less than 25' from the steam room.

With about 84 to 140 ft³ of steam room in reach and oil rubbed bronze steamheads in the shower, the SteamSpa BKW900ORB-A gives you a complete 9 kW steam shower package from one brand, ready for a licensed electrician and plumber to install.

Features

9 kW for 84 to 140 ft³
SteamSpa's sizing chart matches 9 kW to a mid-size walk-in shower or a shower with a bench of about 84 to 140 ft³, so the generator is matched to the room's volume;
