The Nantucket Sinks STEPPE3918 is a 39" two-tier undermount kitchen sink, The Steppe, which Nantucket created in collaboration with Studio Dearborn. A full-depth 25" basin sits beside a lowered drying platform with a removable dish rack, so washing and air drying happen in one sink, for a large kitchen with a 42" cabinet base and no room to spare on the counter for a dish drainer.
Two tiers do two jobs. The full-depth main basin has plenty of space to soak and clean large cookware and bakeware, and beside it a 12" x 16" platform sits higher, sloping from 5.5" to 5.75" deep, as a drain area for rinsing and air drying. The removable stainless wire dish rack fits into the platform, and its slight pitch lets water drain freely into the basin, which keeps water in the sink and off your counters.
Nantucket fabricates the sink from premium 16-gauge, high grade corrosion resistant 304 stainless steel with sound-deadening rubber padding, and the bottom grid with rubber feet protects the basin's brushed satin finish. Small radius corners make for easy cleaning, and the side set drain can be installed on the left or the right, giving more unobstructed surface area in the basin.
Fitting the STEPPE3918 in Your Kitchen
Sizing is straightforward. The STEPPE3918 measures 39" x 18" x 10" overall. As an undermount sink it is installed beneath a solid surface countertop such as granite or quartz, and the fabricator can finish the edge flush with the bowl or with the 1/4" overhang Nantucket recommends. There are no faucet holes in the sink, so the faucet is planned separately, either through the countertop or on the wall. Nantucket's installation guide calls for professional installation. The Undermount installation guide in Resources covers the cutout and mounting.
Pro Series Sizes and Accessories
The STEPPE3918 is part of Nantucket's Pro Series, which Nantucket created following the trend for industrial style kitchens in the home, with small radius (SR) or zero radius (ZR) corners on every model and a range that runs from bar and prep bowls to large, deep single bowls. The Steppe is Nantucket's two-tier design created with Studio Dearborn, and its fitted CB-ST3918 sapele cutting board is sold separately. Nantucket offers accessories to complete its Pro Series sinks, and the optional pieces listed for the STEPPE3918 are the CB-ST3918 cutting board.
Caring for the Stainless Steel
Nantucket's care guide for its stainless sinks favors light, frequent cleaning over an occasional heavy scrub: wipe with a soft cloth and a mild cleaner in the direction of the grain, towel dry after use to keep the steel shiny and free of water spots, and lift mineral deposits with vinegar and water. For tougher stains it suggests a mild abrasive such as Bar Keepers Friend, and it asks you to avoid steel wool and bleach, to wipe up salt, vinegar, citrus and other acidic foods promptly, and not to leave steel or cast iron cookware, wet sponges or soap bars sitting in the sink.
In short, the Nantucket Sinks STEPPE3918 is a 39" stainless steel undermount kitchen sink that pairs a full-depth basin with a lowered drying platform and dish rack.
Designed With Studio Dearborn
Nantucket developed The Steppe with the design firm Studio Dearborn, with a layout built around how dishes are actually washed, rinsed and dried.
39" Sink for a 42" Base
At 39" x 18" x 10" overall, the sink needs a 42" minimum cabinet, so plan it for a long sink wall or a large island.
Raised Drying Platform
The 12" x 16" platform slopes from 5.5" to 5.75" deep and pitches into the main basin, so dripping dishes drain into the sink instead of onto a counter mat.
Removable Wire Dish Rack
The included stainless wire dish rack fits the platform for air drying, then lifts out when you want the platform for rinsing produce.
Side Set Drain, Left or Right
The drain is side set and can be installed on either the left or the right, leaving more of the basin floor clear for pans.
Premium 16-Gauge 304 Steel
High grade 16-gauge 304 stainless steel is corrosion resistant and rigid, and sound-deadening rubber padding keeps the long sink quiet.
Sold separately: CB-ST3918 cutting board.
Installation
This is an undermount sink: it hangs beneath a solid surface countertop such as granite or quartz, which Nantucket specifies for its undermount stainless sinks, and it fits a 42" minimum sink base cabinet. Nantucket's installation guide calls for professional installation; give the countertop fabricator the installation guide and follow local building and plumbing codes. The guide has the fabricator mark the cutout from a template, cut on the inside of the line, and finish the counter flush with the bowl or overhanging it by 1/8" to 1/4"; Nantucket recommends a 1/4" overhang, which gives a clean edge and hides the silicone. Clips are spaced evenly around the sink, set loosely, adjusted, then tightened. Silicone sealant is not included. There are no faucet holes, so the faucet mounts on the countertop, and the sink needs a standard 3.5" drain, which is side set and can be installed on the left or right of the main basin. The Undermount installation guide is in Resources.
Care
Clean the sink often rather than saving it for a heavy scrub: a soft non-abrasive cloth and a mild cleaner, wiped with the direction of the grain, then a towel dry after use to keep it shiny and free of water spots. For tougher stains use a mild abrasive such as Bar Keepers Friend, and remove mineral deposits with vinegar and water. Never use steel wool or bleach, do not leave cleaners in the bowl overnight or wet sponges and soap bars on the steel, wipe up salt, vinegar, citrus and other acidic foods promptly, and do not leave steel or cast iron cookware sitting in the sink.
