The Nantucket Sinks Wellfleet-3419MatteBlack is a 34.25" fireclay kitchen sink in matte black that installs as an undermount or a drop-in, the largest of Nantucket's apronless Wellfleet sinks. It suits a dramatic or modern kitchen where a black basin set into a light countertop becomes a feature, and it ships with a bottom grid and a basket strainer drain.
The single basin measures 31.75" x 16" at the top, narrowing to 30.5" x 14.5" at the bottom, and is 8.875" deep inside a 34.25" x 18.5" x 10" sink, a large basin that accommodates the largest cookware and bakeware. The included bottom grid has soft feet and bumpers that help protect against chips from dropped pots while letting water run beneath dishes, and a basket strainer drain is included.
The top edge is glazed, so the sink can be reveal mounted under a countertop or installed as a drop-in. Fireclay is an eco-friendly natural material, and dimensions are nominal, varying by about 1/4". Nantucket makes this model in Italy.
Three glazes are offered, white, matte black and a concrete effect, and the smaller Wellfleet-3218W, Wellfleet-2719W and Wellfleet-1818 share the same apronless design for a matching second sink.
Fit, Mounting and Plumbing
Because it is a dual-mount fireclay sink rather than an apron front, it can sit on a standard cabinet: it needs a base cabinet of at least 36", a 2x4 support frame inside to carry its weight (74 lbs), and room behind it for the faucet (it has no faucet holes, so the faucet goes on the countertop or the wall). The drain opening takes a standard kitchen drain, and a drain other than the one included may require an extended flange or ferrule because of the sink thickness. Nantucket's Wellfleet installation guide has the support frame built from 2x4s and the countertop opening cut from the actual sink; the counter can overhang the sink or reveal its rim.
Caring for Fireclay
Fireclay is fired at high temperature under a glaze that lets food stains wipe away and will not rust. Day to day it needs only a mild cleaner and a soft cloth; Nantucket suggests baking soda for stuck-on food, Soft Scrub or a Scotch-Brite sponge for a rare mark, and a little carnauba wax now and then. Nantucket's fireclay care guide calls the material easy and low maintenance, and in hard water areas a quick dry with a cloth prevents spotting.
Whether it is the main sink or a second prep or bar sink, the Nantucket Sinks Wellfleet-3419MatteBlack brings the look and easy care of a fireclay kitchen sink to a kitchen that wants a clean, apronless profile.
Matte Black Glaze
The matte black porcelain enamel glaze gives the large basin a bold, modern look that pairs with black, brass or stainless fixtures.
Black Glazed Rim
The top edge is glazed in matte black, so a reveal mount frames the bowl with a dark line under a light stone countertop.
Largest Wellfleet Basin
The 31.75" x 16" bowl is 8.875" deep, in a 34.25" sink that Nantucket calls its largest Wellfleet model, with room for big bakeware.
Grid With Soft Feet
The included bottom grid stands on soft feet with bumpers, protecting the fireclay from chips and letting water reach the drain.
Undermount or Drop-In
With a glazed top edge, the sink can be reveal mounted under stone or dropped in from above, so it suits new counters and retrofits.
Fits a 36" Cabinet
Nantucket lists a 36" minimum base cabinet, so measure the cabinet run before ordering and plan the cutout from the actual sink.
Installation
This sink installs as an undermount or a drop-in and fits a 36" minimum base cabinet. No template is included: Nantucket says to use the sink itself as the rough-in guide for the cutout, and its Wellfleet guide has the installer build a 2x4 support frame inside the cabinet so the sink is carried from below. Mounting hardware is not included, and Nantucket specifies professional installation only. There are no faucet holes, so the faucet mounts on the counter. The 3.5" drain opening takes the included basket strainer; a drain other than the one included may require an extended flange or ferrule because of the sink thickness. The sink weighs 74 lbs. The Wellfleet installation guide is in Resources.
Care
Clean the fireclay regularly with a mild cleaner and a soft cloth or non-abrasive sponge, then rinse; in hard water areas, dry it with a cloth to prevent spotting. Soak stuck-on food to loosen it, using baking soda if needed, and lift a rare surface stain with Soft Scrub or a Scotch-Brite sponge. An occasional coat of carnauba wax adds protection and helps water run off. Fireclay contains no metal, so it will not rust. Fireclay is stain resistant and low maintenance, and the drain should never be over-tightened.
