ECU4 Modular Containment Unit with Collapsible Frame

What the ECU4 is

The ECU4 is HEPACART's portable, collapsible environmental containment unit: a soft-sided room built from an articulating aluminum frame and a reusable containment envelope. It is used for ceiling, wall and corridor work in occupied buildings, as a construction anteroom or airlock, and as a temporary vestibule for controlled entry and exit. HEPACART publishes the ECU4 for ICRA compliance levels I to V, used with a stand-alone HEPA-filtered negative air machine that is sold separately.

Frame and envelope

The frame unfolds from a 12" x 66" x 12" collapsed bundle to a 31.31" x 61" footprint and adjusts from 7' to 10'6" tall with ratchet pins and Velcro loops, finishing against the ceiling grid on a strip of memory foam. The envelope is a lightweight rip-stop poly fabric flame-rated to ASTM E 84, with a double reinforced nylon floor, YKK #10 resin zippers and reinforced stitching on every Velcro strap.

Doors, windows, ports

Two 22" narrow doors and two 48" wide cargo doors let crews enter from either side, and four clear 14" x 40" windows keep the work visible from the corridor. A 12.5" duct port and a 3.5" utility port sit on the narrow ends, the smaller one doubling as a HEPA vacuum port. Two air balancing vents and a clear permit display holder complete the envelope.

Choosing a configuration

Order the Modular assembly for a complete unit, or the Ante room assembly to add the Sidewall Flange kit for doorway and wall containment. The frame and the reusable envelope are also sold on their own, so a damaged part can be replaced without buying a whole unit. HEPACART notes that Generation 4 parts do not fit earlier ECU frames.

Setup and transport

One person can set up the ECU4 in about 10 minutes. It can be repositioned with the unit deployed and a ladder in place, and it collapses with the envelope left on the frame, wrapped in its Velcro belt and storage cover. The large outer shipping box weighs about 101 lbs, so plan for two people at delivery.

Orders are processed in 1 to 2 business days, then HEPACART ships in-stock units from Lenexa, Kansas, within 2 to 4 business days, fully assembled on a pallet by LTL freight, and they spend about 1 to 6 business days in transit depending on your region. Custom or out-of-stock items can take 2 to 4 weeks. Freight is calculated at checkout and shown before you pay. It goes to a business address in the lower 48 states with a loading dock or forklift; contact us before you order if you need residential, liftgate, inside or appointment delivery, or delivery to Alaska or Hawaii. You'll get tracking by email as soon as it leaves HEPACART.

Inspect the packaging and the product before you sign. Note any damage or shortage on the delivery receipt, then email photos to support@mycleansupplies.com within 48 hours of delivery so the freight claim can be filed. Damage reported after 48 hours can't be claimed.

Unused HEPACART products in their original packaging can be returned within 7 days of delivery, if HEPACART approves the return. Ask us for a return authorization before you ship. Returns carry HEPACART's 30% restocking fee, you pay the return freight, and the shipping we paid to deliver it and payment processing fees are not refunded. Custom and special-order items are final sale, and used or contaminated units can't be returned.

HEPACART covers the ECU4 Modular Containment Unit under its own manufacturer warranty, on HEPACART's terms; we don't add a separate warranty. Complete the warranty activation when HEPACART's Warranty Activation Email arrives, and keep the model and serial number from the unit's label with your records.

Warranty claims. Contact us with your order number, model and serial number, and report any fault present on arrival within 10 days of delivery. We file the claim with HEPACART, which repairs or replaces equipment that was defective when it shipped.

HEPACART was founded in 2006 to solve one problem: doing construction and maintenance work in an occupied hospital without letting dust and airborne contaminants spread into the rooms around it. Its product line is assembled at its factory in Lenexa, Kansas, and HEPACART reports that carts it sold in 2006 are still in service.

The ECU4 is the soft-sided, collapsible counterpart to HEPACART's rigid aluminum carts and AnteRoom: where a HEPACART cart rolls in fully assembled, the ECU4 folds into a service vehicle and grows with flanges, a 5' cuff and a mobile platform. The ECU4 bundles package the unit with those accessories, and disposable envelopes fit the same frame for dirty work.
