Wall bracket, stand, riser or pad: which should I choose?

Use a pad on firm, level ground with little snow. Use risers or the Weldbracket stand where snow, standing water or yard debris would reach the coil. Use a wall bracket when there is no ground space or the condenser must sit higher, as long as the wall is solid enough to carry it.

How much weight do these supports carry?

MRCOOL rates the MB176 wall bracket to 176 lbs and the MB440A to 440 lbs, and CoolGuard rates the Weldbracket to 220 lbs. MRCOOL does not publish a load rating for the risers or the equipment pad. Compare the rating with your condenser's weight on its specification sheet, and never exceed it.

Which condensers fit the MRCOOL wall brackets?

MRCOOL lists the MB176 for its 9,000, 12,000 and 18,000 BTU ductless condensers and the MB440A for its 24,000 and 36,000 BTU condensers. The arms slide along the wall plate to match the condenser's foot spacing. Remove any rubber pads from the condenser feet, since the bracket has its own isolation pads.

What kind of wall can hold a condenser bracket?

A strong, permanent wall. MRCOOL's manual calls for 5/16" holes about 2-3/4" deep, a masonry bit for concrete or brick, and bolts lined up with studs on a framed wall. A leveling screw on each arm squares the bracket on uneven siding. Check the bracket every three months.

Do the risers need to be bolted down?

No. MRCOOL designs them to be fastened to a solid surface or to sit free-standing, and they fit all MRCOOL side-discharge condensers. Each block has a built-in level vial so you can set the unit flat.

Can I install these supports myself?

Yes, with basic tools: a drill, a level and a wrench, plus a helper or lifting equipment to set the condenser in place. Don't overtighten the bracket hardware, and confirm the wall or ground can carry the combined weight of the support and the unit.
