Single condenser duct, quick setup

Single condenser duct, quick setup

The KPAC II pushes its condenser heat out through one flexible duct, usually into the plenum above a drop ceiling through a 24" x 24" replacement ceiling panel. The condenser duct can run up to 25' long, so the unit can sit right where the heat load is.

Because the condenser draws its make-up air from the cooled room, a single-duct unit creates slight negative pressure in the space. That suits most server closets and offices; the ceiling kit is sold separately.

Two chutes aim the cold air

Two chutes aim the cold air

Cold air leaves through two flexible air chutes that come standard and swivel toward a person, a rack or a machine. The coil delivers about a 20°F temperature drop, so 95°F room air comes out of the chutes at about 75°F.

For spot cooling at a workstation, KwiKool rates the effective reach at 5' to 7' from the unit. The condenser flange that the ceiling duct clamps onto is optional and sold separately.

Ceiling kit for the exhaust duct

Ceiling kit for the exhaust duct

KwiKool's single-duct ceiling kit pairs a replacement ceiling panel with a flexible duct, a flange and clamps. The flange bolts to the top of the KPAC II, the duct clamps to the flange and the panel drops into the ceiling grid in place of a standard tile.

The kit weighs 22 lbs and is sold separately as the CK-12S for the 1.1-ton and 1.5-ton models. Without a ceiling, the optional condenser duct can also vent into another large, well-ventilated space.

Got Questions?

Find answers below or contact our support team.

What circuit does a KPAC II spot cooler need?

The KPAC1411-3 runs on 115V with a NEMA 5-15 plug and a 15A or 20A circuit. The KPAC1811-3 needs a 20A circuit with a NEMA 5-20 receptacle. The 2-ton model comes as the 115V KPAC2411-3 on a 20A circuit or the 230V KPAC2421-3 with a NEMA 6-20 plug.

Where does the condensate water go?

Every KPAC II has an internal 2.5-gallon condensate tank with a float switch. When the tank is full, the unit shuts down and an alarm sounds, so water does not spill on the floor. Empty the tank and reconnect it, and the alarm clears automatically.

How much will it cool the air?

The coil gives about a 20°F temperature drop, so 95°F intake air leaves the chutes at about 75°F. KwiKool rates spot cooling as effective within 5' to 7' of the unit, which is why the chutes are aimed at the person or equipment rather than the whole room.

Can it run in a cold room or outdoors in winter?

No. Standard KPAC II units are rated to operate from 70°F to 105°F at 50% RH, and KwiKool notes that temperatures below 60°F cause freezing and reduced performance and can void the warranty. Low-ambient controls are a special-order option.

Is the KPAC II meant for home use?

No. KwiKool designs its portable cooling systems for commercial and industrial applications, and its warranty extends to purchasers who buy for commercial or industrial use. Typical jobs are server and electrical rooms, offices, retail spaces and work areas.

Do I need the ceiling kit?

The condenser heat has to go somewhere outside the cooled space. Most buyers vent it into a drop ceiling with KwiKool's ceiling kit, sold separately. The optional condenser duct can run up to 25' to another large, ventilated space instead.
