The MRS stacks its filter elements in modules above a stainless steel tank: a disposable bag and cloth filters catch droplets and debris, an activated carbon stage captures mercury vapor, and on the MRS 3 an ULPA filter rated 99.999% at 0.12 µm finishes the air.
Because the modules come apart, the system can be tailored to dry or wet recovery and serviced stage by stage. Between jobs, store it in a cool, dry, ventilated room, as Minuteman directs.
The MRS 3 and MRS 4 build the system on a 15 gal stainless steel tank moving 115 CFM with 110" of water lift. The MRS 3 handles dry quicksilver, while the MRS 4 recovers mercury immersed in water and holds 15 gal of liquid.
Both roll on 8" rear wheels and 3" front casters, so the tank goes to the spill instead of being carried. Choose the MRS 4 when mercury has settled in water, and the MRS 3 when it is dry.
The MRS 6 puts the mercury filter system on a 6 gal stainless steel canister, with 95 CFM and 0.62ft³ of dry capacity. It weighs 24.5 lbs, against 70 lbs or more for the 15 gal models.
It is set up for dry quicksilver recovery, so choose the MRS 4 if mercury has to come out of water. The MRS 6 ships with its own tool kit, P/N 490010.

The MRS 3 (C83015-01) recovers dry quicksilver with a 15 gal stainless steel tank and ULPA filtration. The MRS 4 (C84015-01) recovers mercury immersed in water and holds 15 gal of liquid. The MRS 6 (C86006-11) is a 6 gal dry unit that weighs 24.5 lbs.
No. Minuteman designed its mercury recovery vacuums for liquid mercury or mercury oxides from spills, and says they should not be used for everyday cleaning unless the debris is mercury-contaminated.
Minuteman says to wear the proper face mask, gloves and protective clothing when cleaning up a mercury spill, and to check with your health and safety department or supervisor if you are not familiar with operating a mercury recovery vacuum.
Treat it as hazardous material. Place the debris in a plastic bag or container marked hazardous materials and take it to a hazardous waste handler; never put it in regular trash.
In a cool, dry, well-ventilated room, vented to outside air if possible, and not in a space with an air return vent leading to a central air system.
A grounded 15 A, 115 V, 60 Hz outlet. If you use an extension cord, it must be three-wire grounded, at least one wire size larger than the machine's cord and no more than 25' long.
