Which MRCOOL units can I clean with the Care Kit?

The indoor steps are written for wall-mounted air handlers, and MRCOOL states the kit is not for the DIY ceiling cassette air handler. The foam and sprayer steps also cover the outdoor condenser coil, including a condenser that serves a cassette. On a multi-zone system, repeat the indoor steps at each wall unit.

Do I have to take the air handler apart to clean the coil?

No. Open the front cover, lift out the filters, and foam the coil through the vent openings on top and the face exposed where the filters sat. Nothing else comes off, and the foam does the loosening, so there is no brushing or scrubbing of the fins.

How long should the foam sit before rinsing?

MRCOOL's instructions call for a soak of a few minutes, then a thorough rinse: the pull-rod sprayer indoors, a garden hose outdoors. A coil packed with dirt may need a second round. Let the unit drain and dry before turning the power back on.

Where does the rinse water go when I clean the indoor unit?

Into the water collection bag. It hangs from the back of the air handler on a black strap so it sits evenly under the cabinet, and the drain tube runs from its spout into a bucket. Empty the bucket and remove the bag when the dripping stops.

Is the foam cleaner safe to use indoors?

Use it with care. It is a flammable aerosol, so work in a ventilated room, keep it away from flame, hold the can upright, and store it below 104°F. MRCOOL recommends gloves, safety glasses and a face mask. Turn the power off first and keep foam and water off wiring, covering electrical parts with a plastic bag if needed.

Can I use AC Rescue on equipment from other brands?

MRCOOL describes AC Rescue for evaporator and condenser coils and lists it for MRCOOL equipment. On another brand's unit, check that maker's cleaning guidance first, since some manufacturers restrict the chemicals allowed on their coils.
