Quiet comfort for a single room

Quiet comfort for a single room

The inverter compressor varies its speed to match the room instead of cycling at full power, so temperatures hold steady and the wall unit drops as low as 17.5 dBA. Sizes run from 9,000 to 36,000 BTU/h, up to 21.5 SEER2.

It suits a bedroom, addition or garage that ducts never reached. MRCOOL rates coverage at up to 400 ft² on the 9,000 BTU size and up to 1,550 ft² on the 36,000 BTU size under ideal conditions, so size from a load calculation.

Can I install the MRCOOL Advantage myself?

No. The Advantage is not a DIY system. A licensed HVAC technician has to mount both units, connect and leak-test the refrigerant lines, evacuate them with a vacuum pump and open the charge, then wire and start the system. MRCOOL's DIY series with pre-charged Quick Connect lines is the homeowner-installed alternative.

Does the Advantage come with a line set?

The complete system includes a 16' install kit: pre-flared copper line set, communication cable, drain line, wall sleeve and sealing materials. Line sizes are 1/4" x 3/8" on the 9,000 and 12,000 BTU sizes, 1/4" x 1/2" on the 18,000 and 3/8" x 5/8" on the 24,000 and 36,000. If you buy the condenser and air handler separately, plan on your contractor supplying the line set. Runs beyond 24.6' need extra refrigerant.

Will it heat when it is very cold outside?

The 9,000 to 24,000 BTU sizes are rated to heat down to 5°F outdoors, and the 36,000 BTU size down to -13°F. Output drops as it gets colder: the 9,000 BTU 115V unit delivers 6,500 BTU/h at 5°F, for example. In regions that regularly run below those temperatures, plan a backup heat source.

115V or 230V: which should I choose?

The 9,000 and 12,000 BTU sizes come in both. The 115V condensers need a 20A breaker, while the 230V versions run on a 15A breaker and are slightly more efficient at 12,000 BTU. The 18,000 BTU and larger sizes are 208-230V only. Your electrician should confirm the panel capacity either way.

Can I control it from my phone?

Yes. A Smart Controller Kit (a USB Wi-Fi module that plugs in under the front panel) is packed with the air handler. It connects the unit to the MRCOOL SmartHVAC app and works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. The handheld remote with Follow Me temperature sensing is included as well.

How far apart can the indoor and outdoor units be?

Maximum line length is 82' on the 9,000 and 12,000 BTU sizes, 98.4' on the 18,000, 164' on the 24,000 and 213.2' on the 36,000. Maximum height difference runs from 49.2' on the smallest sizes to 98.4' on the 36,000 BTU size.
