Fits between standard ceiling joists

Fits between standard ceiling joists

The cassette body is 8.9" high and recesses between joists on 16" centers, including manufactured I-joists, so it can go into an existing ceiling without reframing. It needs a flat, horizontal ceiling surface for drainage and airflow.

That makes it a retrofit option for rooms with no free wall for a head, or where a wall unit would spoil the look of the room.

Filter panel that lowers on command

Filter panel that lowers on command

The Elevation function on the remote lowers the filter panel out of the ceiling so the filter can be cleaned standing on the floor, then raises it back into place.

Ceiling units are easy to neglect because they are out of reach. Bringing the panel down to you keeps regular cleaning practical in basements and rooms with high ceilings alike.

Quiet one-way airflow

Quiet one-way airflow

The cassette blows in one direction from a two-stage DC fan, with fan speeds from 235 to 341 CFM on the 6,000 and 9,000 BTU models and up to 400 CFM on the 18,000 BTU model. Rated sound at the lowest setting is 23.5 to 26 dBA depending on size.

Position it so the air throws across the room rather than straight down onto a bed or sofa.

Got Questions?

Find answers below or contact our support team.

Does the ceiling cassette need its own condenser?

It needs a compatible DIY 5th Gen condenser: a multi-zone condenser, where it can fill any slot the match-up chart allows, or a DIY Hyper Heat single-zone condenser of the same capacity (12,000 or 18,000 BTU). The condenser is sold separately.

Is a line set included with the cassette?

No. MRCOOL lists the connecting line set as a separate purchase. The 6,000, 9,000 and 12,000 BTU cassettes use 1/4" x 3/8" lines and the 18,000 BTU cassette uses 1/4" x 1/2".

Will it fit between my ceiling joists?

It is designed for joists on 16" centers, including I-joists. The body measures 50.3" x 13.1" x 8.9", so check the depth of the joist bay and leave room for the line set and drain. MRCOOL supplies a cardboard template for the ceiling cut-out.

How do I clean the cassette filter?

Use the Elevation function on the remote or smart controller to lower the filter panel, clean the filter, then raise the panel again. No ladder work is needed for routine cleaning.

Does the cassette need a condensate pump?

Plan a gravity drain that slopes downhill wherever you can. MRCOOL's manual is not consistent on the pump: the commissioning steps check a drainage pump and allow a lift pipe of no more than 20.8" above the cassette's drain port, while the troubleshooting table calls the drain pump optional. Confirm with MRCOOL before you design a drain that has to rise.
