Pre-charged lines, no vacuum pump

Pre-charged lines, no vacuum pump

The 25' Quick Connect line set leaves the factory charged with R-454B and sealed at both ends. You hang the air handler, pass the bundle through a 3.54" wall hole, tighten each fitting with wrenches and open the service valves with the supplied Allen key.

No gauges, vacuum pump or brazing are involved, which is what makes a homeowner install realistic. Plan the route before tightening anything, then leak-check every joint as the manual describes.

On its lowest fan setting the 9,000 and 12,000 BTU air handler is rated at 18 dBA, and the larger heads stay between 19 and 27.5 dBA at the same setting. Louver position memory returns the airflow to where you left it after the unit powers down.

The 115V sizes suit bedrooms and home offices, while the 208/230V sizes are meant for open living areas and larger rooms.

Heats at -13°F, cools at 122°F

Heats at -13°F, cools at 122°F

The DC inverter condenser is rated to keep heating at outdoor temperatures down to -13°F and to keep cooling at up to 122°F. The five single-zone sizes cover areas from up to 400ft² (9,000 BTU) to up to 1,550ft² (36,000 BTU), with SEER2 ratings from 18 to 23.6.

MRCOOL bases those coverage areas on ideal conditions, so choose a larger size for high ceilings, big windows or weak insulation, and keep a backup heat source where winters run colder.

Got Questions?

Find answers below or contact our support team.

Can I really install the MRCOOL DIY 5th Gen myself?

Yes, that is what the series is designed for. The pre-charged Quick Connect line set removes the vacuum and refrigerant steps, and the manual covers mounting, the wall hole, the line connections and the wiring. The electrical hookup still has to meet local code, and some areas require a permit or an electrician for the circuit, so check before you start.

Do I need a 230V circuit for the DIY 5th Gen?

It depends on the size. The 9,000 and 12,000 BTU models run on 115V with a 20A maximum breaker. The 18,000, 24,000 and 36,000 BTU models need 208/230V, with maximum breakers of 20A, 25A and 35A. The power cable to the outdoor unit is not included.

How cold can it get outside before the DIY 5th Gen stops heating?

MRCOOL rates heating down to -13°F outdoors and cooling up to 122°F. Outside those ranges the unit's protection features can shut it down. For winters that regularly go colder, the DIY 5th Gen Hyper Heat condenser is rated to -22°F, or keep a backup heat source.

Is the line set long enough, and can I extend it?

A 25' Quick Connect line set comes with the system. For a longer route, MRCOOL sells pre-charged line sets in 16', 25', 35' and 50' lengths and coupler kits that join two of them. Keep the total within the maximum run listed in the manual for your size, and leak-check every joint after tightening it to the torque in the manual.

Can I add more rooms to a single-zone system later?

No. A single-zone condenser runs one indoor unit. To heat and cool several rooms from one outdoor unit you need a DIY 5th Gen multi-zone condenser, which takes two to six heads depending on the model.
