Up to 20.2 SEER2 on 115V

Up to 20.2 SEER2 on 115V

The 9,000 BTU kit is rated 20.2 SEER2 and the 12,000 BTU kit 9.3 HSPF2 (Region IV), with an inverter compressor that slows down as the room nears its setpoint. Both of those sizes plug into a 115V circuit.

That makes the smaller two the practical choice for a bedroom, office or bonus room where running a new 230V line would cost more than the unit.

A 16' line set in the box

A 16' line set in the box

The 5th Gen kit ships with a 16' Quick Connect line set already charged with R-454B, so the condenser can sit a little further along the wall than a short set allows. The fittings thread on with two wrenches and are leak-checked before the valves open.

For a longer route, MRCOOL's 25', 35' and 50' DIY line sets and coupler kits extend the run within the manual's limits.

Sized from 400 to 1,050ft²

Sized from 400 to 1,050ft²

MRCOOL rates the four kits to cover up to 400ft², 550ft², 800ft² and 1,050ft² under ideal conditions, and each kit is one zone: one wall air handler on one outdoor unit.

For a drafty garage or a room with tall ceilings, step up a size. For several rooms on one outdoor unit, look at MRCOOL's DIY 5th Gen multi-zone condensers instead.

Got Questions?

Find answers below or contact our support team.

Can I install the DIY Easy Pro 5th Gen myself?

Yes, it is designed for homeowner installation. The 16' line set arrives charged with R-454B, so there is no vacuuming, brazing or refrigerant handling, and the manual covers mounting, the wall hole, the line connections and wiring. The electrical circuit must still meet local code, and some areas require a permit or an electrician for it.

Do I need a 230V circuit?

Only for the larger two. The 9,000 and 12,000 BTU kits run on 115V, and the 18,000 and 24,000 BTU kits need 208-230V. Every outdoor unit lists a 20 A maximum breaker.

How is this different from the DIY Easy Pro with the 11.5' line set?

MRCOOL lists the same indoor and outdoor dimensions and the same efficiency ratings for both. The 5th Gen kit ships with a 16' line set instead of 11.5', and it carries its own warranty: 1 year parts and 2 years compressor, where the other Easy Pro lists 3 years parts and 5 years compressor.

Can I extend the 16' line set?

Yes, with a longer MRCOOL DIY Quick Connect line set or a coupler kit of the same line size. MRCOOL's manual lists a maximum run of 75' for the 9,000, 12,000 and 24,000 BTU kits and 65.6' for the 18,000 BTU kit. Leak-check every joint after tightening it to the torque in the manual.

How many rooms can one kit serve?

One. Each kit is a single-zone system: one wall air handler on one outdoor unit. For several rooms on one condenser, MRCOOL's DIY 5th Gen multi-zone condensers take three to six heads.
