Heat pump comfort, no outdoor unit

The Monoblock carries its compressor, both coils and both fans in one 8.07"-deep cabinet on the inside of an exterior wall, drawing and exhausting outdoor air through two 8" holes behind it. It is rated 10,000 BTU/h of cooling at 95°F and 9,000 BTU/h of heating at 47°F.

That makes it a fit for rooms where a condenser is not allowed or has nowhere to go, such as HOA-governed homes and historic houses.

Everything hangs on the inside face of an exterior wall as a single 39.4"-wide white cabinet, so nothing needs a pad, a balcony bracket or roof space. Rated sound runs from 32 dBA on the lowest fan setting to 46 dBA on the highest.

Control comes from the LED display, the included remote or a 24-hour on/off timer, and MRCOOL lists app control over Wi-Fi as an optional extra.

Two round grilles outside

Two round grilles outside

From the street, the only sign of the unit is a pair of round grilles over the two 8" wall holes it breathes through. It cools in outdoor temperatures from 32°F to 113°F and heats from 5°F to 75°F.

Because those holes are cut through the structure, a licensed technician installs the Monoblock and confirms the wall suits it, following MRCOOL's installation manual.

Got Questions?

Find answers below or contact our support team.

Does the Monoblock need an outdoor unit?

No. Everything is inside the wall-mounted cabinet. It vents through two 8" holes core-drilled through the exterior wall behind it, finished with vent tubes and grilles outside, plus a 1" hole for the drain line.

How cold can it be outside and still heat?

MRCOOL lists heating operation from 5°F to 75°F outdoors and cooling from 32°F to 113°F. Heat output falls as it gets colder: 9,000 BTU/h at 47°F, 6,500 BTU/h at 17°F and 5,000 BTU/h at 5°F, so a cold-climate room may need another heat source on the coldest days.

What kind of wall does it need?

A flat, solid exterior wall that can hold the 93.5 lbs unit, ideally no thicker than 9.5". The vent holes are drilled at a 5° downward angle and must miss the studs in a wood-frame wall. Leave 4" open on the left, right and below the unit and 8" above it.

What electrical supply does it need?

A grounded 115V outlet; MRCOOL recommends a 15 A breaker and lists a 13 A minimum circuit ampacity. It must not run on an extension cord, so if there is no outlet near the wall, a qualified electrician should install one.

Who installs the Monoblock?

MRCOOL's installation manual says a licensed technician must hang the unit, on a solid vertical wall. The refrigerant circuit is sealed at the factory, but the job means core drilling two 8" holes through an exterior wall, sealing them, hanging the rail and running the drain, so book a qualified installer.
