Rated to run down to -22°F

MRCOOL's submittal gives the E Star an outdoor operating range of -22°F to 122°F, and its inverter compressor keeps output high in the cold: the 9,000 BTU pair is rated for 11,500 BTU/h of heat at 5°F. Efficiency reaches 27.4 SEER2 and 12.5 HSPF2 on that size.

That makes it a fit for a garage, addition or sunroom in a cold region. Confirm the heat load of the room with your contractor before choosing a size.

Control from the couch or your phone

The handheld remote's Follow Me function reads the temperature where the remote sits, so the system works to the spot you are in rather than the air at the wall. A Smart Controller Kit links the head to the MRCOOL SmartHVAC app for schedules and settings, plus Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.

Fan speed is adjustable from 1% to 100%, so you can trade airflow for quiet in a bedroom or office.

One outdoor unit for one space

One outdoor unit for one space

A single E Star condenser serves one indoor unit of the same capacity, so a room, suite or open area gets its own thermostat and runs only when it is needed. MRCOOL rates coverage up to 400 ft² on the 9,000 BTU size and up to 1,050 ft² on the 24,000.

If you need to condition several rooms from one outdoor unit, look at the Olympus Multi-Zone condensers instead.

Got Questions?

Find answers below or contact our support team.

Can I install the Olympus E Star myself?

No. The E Star uses field-connected flared refrigerant lines, so a licensed HVAC technician has to mount the units, connect and leak-test the lines, evacuate them and release the factory charge, then wire and commission the system. MRCOOL's DIY series is the homeowner-installed alternative.

Is a line set included?

No. MRCOOL's manual states that the connecting pipes are bought separately. Line sizes are 1/4" x 3/8" for the 9,000 and 12,000 BTU sizes, 1/4" x 1/2" for the 18,000 and 3/8" x 5/8" for the 24,000. The factory charge covers 24.6' of line; maximum length is 82', 98.4' and 164' respectively.

How cold can it be outside and still heat?

MRCOOL lists a heating range down to -22°F outdoors. Capacity falls as it gets colder, so check the rated figures: at 5°F the 9,000 BTU pair delivers 11,500 BTU/h and the 24,000 BTU pair 24,200 BTU/h. A proper load calculation should confirm the size for your climate.

Can I use a ceiling cassette or ducted unit instead of the wall unit?

Yes. Each E Star condenser is listed for use with the Olympus wall-mount air handler, Olympus ceiling cassette or Olympus ducted air handler of the same capacity. The system bundle includes the wall-mount head; the cassette and ducted units are sold separately.

Can I control it with my phone or Alexa?

Yes. The wall-mount head ships with a Smart Controller Kit that connects it to Wi-Fi and the MRCOOL SmartHVAC app, which also works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. A handheld remote is included as well.

What size E Star do I need?

MRCOOL rates the 9,000 BTU size for up to 400 ft², the 12,000 for up to 550 ft², the 18,000 for up to 800 ft² and the 24,000 for up to 1,050 ft². Insulation, windows and climate change that number, so have your contractor run a load calculation.
