A compact cabinet for the side yard

A compact cabinet for the side yard

Each Signature condenser arrives charged with R-454B for a 25' line set, with its scroll compressor behind a steel louver coil guard. The 1.5 to 2.5-ton sizes stand on a 23.6" square footprint, 25" tall; the 3-ton is 29.14" square and 25" tall, and the 3.5 to 5-ton sizes are 29.14" square and 32.88" tall.

Plan the pad and service clearances around those footprints before the old unit comes out.

Steady sound near patios and windows

Steady sound near patios and windows

MRCOOL rates the 1.5 and 2-ton condensers at 60 dBA, the 2.5 and 3-ton at 63 dBA and the 3.5 to 5-ton at 65 dBA. A single-stage scroll compressor runs at one speed whenever it is on, so the sound is constant rather than ramping up and down.

Where noise by a bedroom or deck matters most, size to the load rather than up, and site the unit away from windows.

Cooling only, or heat pump

Cooling only, or heat pump

Both condensers share the scroll compressor, corrosion-resistant casing and temperature and pressure sensors, and both cool in outdoor air from 59°F to 113°F. The heat pump version adds heating down to 5°F, with intelligent defrost keeping the outdoor coil clear.

Choose the air conditioner when a gas furnace or electric heat kit already covers winter, and the heat pump for all-electric comfort.

Got Questions?

Find answers below or contact our support team.

Does a Signature condenser heat as well as cool?

Only the heat pump version. It heats in outdoor temperatures down to 5°F and uses intelligent defrost. The air conditioner condenser cools only, so heat has to come from another source, such as a gas furnace or an electric heat kit in the Signature air handler. Cabinet sizes match size for size between the two.

Which air handler do I need with a Signature condenser?

MRCOOL's AHRI ratings pair each condenser with the Signature air handler of the same capacity. The 1.5 to 3-ton condensers are rated with either the multi-position air handler or the stud-mount air handler; the 3.5, 4 and 5-ton condensers are rated with the multi-position air handler only.

Is the Signature condenser variable speed?

No. It uses a single-stage scroll compressor and is rated up to 14.3 SEER2 (13.8 SEER2 on the 4 and 5-ton cooling-only models). For variable-speed operation, MRCOOL offers the Signature Series TruInverter heat pump instead.

How long can the refrigerant line set be?

The factory charge covers 25' of line; beyond that the contractor adds 0.69 oz of R-454B per foot. Maximum line length is 100' on the 1.5 to 2.5-ton sizes and 150' on the 3 to 5-ton sizes, with up to 32' and 65' of vertical lift respectively.

Will it cool on a mild spring day?

MRCOOL lists an outdoor cooling range of 59°F to 113°F. Below about 59°F outside it is not designed to cool, so it does not suit rooms that need cooling in cold weather.

Can I install a Signature condenser myself?

No. It is a split system with brazed refrigerant lines, so a licensed HVAC contractor with EPA refrigerant certification has to set it, connect and charge the lines, fit the matching piston in the indoor coil and start it up.
