Low rooftop shell, inverter inside

Low rooftop shell, inverter inside

The TravelCool rooftop unit stands 10.63" tall and carries a DC inverter compressor that adjusts its output to the load instead of switching hard on and off. It is rated 15,000 BTU/h of cooling and 10,236 BTU/h of heating on 115V power.

The slim shell trims roof height and wind drag, and the inverter's steadier draw suits rigs that juggle shore power, generators and off-grid setups.

Heat pump mode for cool nights

Heat pump mode for cool nights

In heat mode it warms the coach while outdoor temperatures are between 41°F and 75°F, and it cools from 63°F to 109°F outside. Both modes run from the same rooftop unit, with eco and turbo settings rated 55 and 59 dB(A).

Below 41°F it is outside its heating range, so keep the RV's furnace for frosty nights and count on TravelCool for spring and fall heat.

Got Questions?

Find answers below or contact our support team.

Do I need a ceiling kit with the TravelCool rooftop unit?

Yes. The rooftop unit works with either the MLRDK ductless ceiling kit or the MDRDK ducted ceiling kit inside the coach. The ductless and ducted kit configurations include one; the rooftop-unit-only option is for buyers who order the kit separately.

Should I choose the ducted or ductless kit?

Pick the ducted kit if your RV already has ceiling ductwork and you want air spread across several rooms. Pick the ductless kit for vans, campers or custom builds without ducts; its low-profile plenum, 2.57" deep, blows conditioned air straight into the space below.

Will it fit my existing roof air conditioner opening?

MRCOOL specifies a 14.17" x 14.25" ceiling opening, and an existing roof hatch or the opening left by an old rooftop unit can be reused. The mounting area must be flat, sloped no more than 10°, and strong enough to carry the 95.24 lbs unit, so check with the vehicle manufacturer before installation.

How cold can it be outside and still heat?

MRCOOL lists heating operation in outdoor temperatures from 41°F to 75°F. Below 41°F it will not heat, so most owners keep the RV's furnace for colder nights. Cooling runs from 63°F to 109°F outside.

What power does TravelCool need?

It runs on 115V, 60 Hz single-phase power, with a 16 A minimum circuit ampacity in MRCOOL's specifications. The DC inverter ramps output up and down rather than cycling at full power, which MRCOOL designed with generator and off-grid setups in mind.

Can I install TravelCool myself?

MRCOOL's manual states the rooftop unit must be installed by professionals, with electrical connections made only by qualified personnel. The work includes cutting or adapting the roof opening, sealing the unit to the roof, and grounding it to the vehicle's electrical system.
