The MRCOOL Universal packaged unit heat kit adds electric resistance heat inside the Universal 2nd Gen inverter packaged heat pump, for backup on the coldest days and during defrost. Nickel chromium heating elements sit on a steel element plate that slides into a slot in the cabinet, with overheat protection built in, and the kit runs on the same 208/230V single-phase supply as the unit.
MRCOOL lists the MDPHK06D, MDPHK09D and MDPHK12D kits as the only heat kits approved for the MDPH18036D, MDPH18048D and MDPH18060D packaged heat pumps. A licensed electrician or HVAC contractor installs it, sizing the circuit for the kit. That is the Universal packaged unit heat kit.
Features
Matched to the Universal Packaged Unit
Built for the Universal 2nd Gen inverter packaged heat pumps, and the only electric heat MRCOOL approves for them.
Nickel Chromium Elements
Open-coil nickel chromium elements are made for long service life under repeated heating cycles.
Overheat Protection
Built-in overheat protection cuts the elements if temperatures climb too high.
Slide-In Installation
The element plate slides into its slot in the cabinet and fastens with the screws removed from the cover, with no external cabinet to mount.
Thermostat-Controlled Backup
The kit is staged by the unit's thermostat control, adding heat when the heat pump alone cannot hold the set point.
Three Output Sizes
Choose by the home's heat loss and the circuit capacity available: the 9kW and 12kW kits deliver more backup heat and draw more current.

What's Included
- MRCOOL Universal packaged unit electric heat kit (element plate assembly)
Installation
Professional installation required. This equipment must be installed by a qualified, licensed electrician or contractor, following MRCOOL's installation manual and all local electrical and building codes and permit requirements. MRCOOL's limited warranty applies only to units installed that way, and it does not cover installation labor.
Disconnect power before installing. The heat kit's electrical characteristics must match the packaged unit and its supply (208/230V single phase). Check the kit for shipping damage, slide it into the heat kit slot and secure the element plate with the screws removed earlier, then follow the wiring steps in the packaged unit manual and the instructions shipped with the kit. The circuit feeding the unit must be sized for the kit installed.

Shipping, Returns & Warranty
Ships to addresses in the United States only. Shipping cost is calculated at checkout.
Inspect the packaging and the product before you sign. Note any damage or shortage on the delivery receipt, then email photos to support@mycleansupplies.com within 48 hours of delivery so the freight claim can be filed. Damage reported after 48 hours can't be claimed.
MRCOOL handles returns through the store you bought from, so your return comes to us. Unopened, unused MRCOOL equipment can be returned within 21 days of delivery with a return authorization from us. You pay the return shipping, and a restocking fee of up to 20% may be deducted along with payment processing fees. Opened, installed or used equipment and special-order items can't be returned.
MRCOOL's Universal packaged warranty names the MDPHK heat kits: the original owner gets 10 years on parts from the proof of purchase date, plus a 10-year limited labor warranty that starts on the 91st day after purchase, with total labor claims capped at the purchase price less taxes. It requires purchase from an authorized dealer and professional installation to all applicable codes. Full terms, registration steps and exclusions are in the MRCOOL warranty document under Resources.
Warranty claims. MRCOOL handles warranty claims directly through support.mrcool.com or (270) 366-0457. Some MRCOOL warranties cover the original purchaser only. Systems that aren't DIY need a valid installation invoice to open a claim.
About MRCOOL
MRCOOL designs heating, cooling and water-heating equipment from its home base in Hickory, Kentucky. The range runs from DIY ductless mini-splits, built around MRCOOL's patented pre-charged Quick Connect line sets, through contractor-installed mini-splits, central split systems, packaged units and gas furnaces, to HeatWise water heaters and CoolBlade HVLS fans for warehouses and shops.
The 2nd Gen Universal packaged heat pump is MRCOOL's inverter-driven, all-electric packaged system on R-32 refrigerant, for ducted homes that want cold-climate heat pump performance without an indoor air handler. It sits alongside MRCOOL's single-speed VersaPro packaged units and the Universal split system, and MRCOOL's MDPHK electric heat kits slide into the cabinet for backup heat.
