Gas heat and cooling outside

Gas heat and cooling outside

The gas section fires through a single-stage valve with direct spark ignition, delivering 48,000 to 88,000 BTU/h of heat at 81% AFUE, while the cooling side covers 2 to 5 tons at 13.4 SEER2 on R-454B refrigerant.

With the furnace, coil and compressor all outdoors, the house gives up no closet, attic or basement space to equipment, which suits homes short on indoor space where the ducts are already run.

Got Questions?

Find answers below or contact our support team.

Can a VersaPro gas pack run on propane?

Yes. It ships set for natural gas, and MRCOOL includes an LP conversion kit with each gas/electric model. The conversion must be done by the installing gas contractor, who also checks the input after the change.

Can it go on the roof?

Yes. MRCOOL's manual covers rooftop installation on a roof curb, provided the structure can carry the unit's weight, as well as ground installation on a concrete slab. It must not sit directly on wood flooring or on roof covering.

Does it install downflow or horizontal?

Both. The gas/electric cabinet is multi-position, with horizontal supply and return openings on the side and a downflow configuration through the base, so it can feed ducts from beside the house or from a roof curb.

What size do I need for my house?

Cooling runs from 2 to 5 tons, with gas inputs of 60,000, 90,000 or 110,000 BTU/h depending on the model. The right size comes from a load calculation for the home and its ductwork, which your HVAC contractor should do before ordering.

Is it a high-efficiency unit?

It is a standard-efficiency packaged unit: 13.4 SEER2 for cooling and 81% AFUE for gas heat, with a single-stage compressor. If lowest running cost matters more than first cost, a split system with a condensing furnace or an inverter heat pump will rate higher.
