Whole-house comfort through existing ducts

Whole-house comfort through existing ducts

VersaPro sets an inverter condenser outside and an air handler inside that feeds your supply and return ducts. Cooling runs from 18,000 to 54,000 BTU/h across six sizes, and the top ratings in the range are 18.8 SEER2 (18K pair) and 9.7 HSPF2 in Region IV (24K pair).

It is a natural replacement for a tired central system because the ductwork stays. The air handler does need ducts: it is not built for free-blow use.

Variable speed keeps the noise down

Variable speed keeps the noise down

The inverter compressor changes speed to match the load instead of cycling on and off at full power. MRCOOL rates the outdoor units at 55 to 65 dBA depending on size, and the air handler drops to 28 dBA on its quietest setting.

Fewer hard starts also mean less wear on the compressor, and the Gold Fin coating on the condenser coil helps it hold up in salty coastal air.

Got Questions?

Find answers below or contact our support team.

Can I install a VersaPro system myself?

No. VersaPro is a split system with field-connected refrigerant lines, so a licensed HVAC contractor with EPA refrigerant certification has to set both units, connect and leak-check the lines, wire it and start it up. That holds even when the optional pre-charged line sets are used.

Does the VersaPro come with a line set?

No, line sets are sold separately. Every size uses 3/8" liquid and 3/4" suction lines, either MRCOOL's optional No Vac Quick Connect sets pre-charged with R-454B or copper supplied by the contractor. Maximum line length is 98.4' on the 18K, 164' on the 24K and 30K, and 246' on the 36K, 48K and 60K.

Is an air filter included with the air handler?

No. The air handler has a filter rack with a removable magnetic cover, but the filter is bought separately: 16" x 20" x 1" for the 18K and 24K, 20" x 20" x 1" for the 30K and 36K, and 23" x 20" x 1" for the 48K and 60K.

Do I need a heat kit for cold winters?

Optional electric heat kits mount in the air handler to supply emergency heat when the heat pump cannot keep up, which MRCOOL suggests for cold regions and high altitudes. Modules run from 5kW to 10kW on the 18K up to 10kW to 20kW on the 60K, per the manual's matching table. They are sold separately and wired by a licensed contractor.

Why is the 5-ton model rated at 54,000 BTU?

The MVP-60 pair is sold as a 5-ton size, but MRCOOL's submittal rates it at 54,000 BTU/h for both cooling and heating. Size the system from a proper load calculation rather than the nominal tonnage.

Does it come with a thermostat?

Yes. A MRCOOL Smart Thermostat ships with the air handler and works with the SmartHVAC app for schedules, temperature limits and vacation mode. A 24V thermostat adapter for the air handler to condenser connection is in the same carton.
