The Nantucket Sinks NS503-16-CB is a 32.25" Sconset 60/40 double bowl undermount kitchen sink that comes complete with a wood cutting board: a deep large bowl and a shallower prep bowl under one rim, for cooks who wash and prep at the same time. Nantucket describes the board as maple, and the sink also ships with two NS35CD colander drains and fitted bottom grids for both bowls. It fits a 33" sink base.
The two bowls are set at different depths for different jobs: the large bowl, 15.75" x 18.75", is 10" deep for pots and the dish load, while the small bowl, 13.5" x 16.625", is 8" deep for rinsing produce or holding the colander. Nantucket calls it a great contemporary design with the utility of a 60/40 sink. The fitted BG503L and BG503S bottom grids keep pots and dishes off the bottom of each bowl, and each bowl has its own rear drain and NS35CD colander drain.
The wood cutting board lays across the sink for chopping over the water, then lifts off to store. Nantucket builds the sink from 16-gauge 304 stainless steel in a lustrous satin finish, with thick rubber dampening pads to dampen sound; its finishing process helps keep the steel corrosion resistant to rust and oxidation, and the brushed satin finish makes daily maintenance a simple rinse.
Fitting the NS503-16-CB in Your Kitchen
Sizing is straightforward. The NS503-16-CB measures 32.25" x 20.625" x 10" overall. As an undermount sink it is installed beneath a solid surface countertop such as granite or quartz, and the fabricator can finish the edge flush with the bowl or with the 1/4" overhang Nantucket recommends. There are no faucet holes in the sink, so the faucet is planned separately, either through the countertop or on the wall. Nantucket's installation guide calls for professional installation. The Undermount installation guide in Resources covers the cutout and mounting.
The Sconset Collection
The NS503-16-CB belongs to the Sconset Collection.
Caring for the Stainless Steel
Nantucket's care guide for its stainless sinks favors light, frequent cleaning over an occasional heavy scrub: wipe with a soft cloth and a mild cleaner in the direction of the grain, towel dry after use to keep the steel shiny and free of water spots, and lift mineral deposits with vinegar and water. For tougher stains it suggests a mild abrasive such as Bar Keepers Friend, and it asks you to avoid steel wool and bleach, to wipe up salt, vinegar, citrus and other acidic foods promptly, and not to leave steel or cast iron cookware, wet sponges or soap bars sitting in the sink.
In short, the Nantucket Sinks NS503-16-CB is a 32.25" stainless steel undermount kitchen sink that pairs a deep wash bowl with a shallower prep bowl and adds a wood cutting board.
Wood Cutting Board Included
The 21.375" x 12.75" x 1" wood board, which Nantucket describes as maple, sits over the sink so you can chop and sweep trimmings straight into a bowl.
10" and 8" Bowl Depths
The 10" deep large bowl handles pots and soaking, while the 13.5" x 16.625" small bowl is 8" deep, so the two sides suit different jobs.
Fitted Grids for Both Bowls
The BG503L and BG503S bottom grids are sized to each bowl, keeping pots and dishes off the steel and letting water drain beneath them.
16-Gauge 304 Stainless
The sink is 16-gauge 304 stainless steel in a lustrous satin finish, durable stainless steel that Nantucket says is meant to go the distance.
Rubber Sound Pads
Thick rubber dampening pads on the underside quiet the drumming of running water and clattering dishes, which you notice most in an open-plan kitchen.
Easy-Care Brushed Satin
Nantucket says the brushed satin finish makes daily maintenance a simple rinse; the even grain gives a low-glare look, and a towel dry keeps water spots off.
Rear Drains Free Up the Cabinet
Both 3.5" drains sit at the rear of their bowls, so the trap runs closer to the wall and leaves more open space under the sink.
Installation
This is an undermount sink: it hangs beneath a solid surface countertop such as granite or quartz, which Nantucket specifies for its undermount stainless sinks, and it fits a 33" minimum sink base cabinet. Nantucket's installation guide calls for professional installation; give the countertop fabricator the installation guide and follow local building and plumbing codes. The guide has the fabricator mark the cutout from a template, cut on the inside of the line, and finish the counter flush with the bowl or overhanging it by 1/8" to 1/4"; Nantucket recommends a 1/4" overhang, which gives a clean edge and hides the silicone. Clips are spaced evenly around the sink, set loosely, adjusted, then tightened. Silicone sealant is not included. There are no faucet holes, so the faucet mounts on the countertop, and the sink needs two standard 3.5" drains, both at the rear. The Undermount installation guide is in Resources.
Care
Clean the sink often rather than saving it for a heavy scrub: a soft non-abrasive cloth and a mild cleaner, wiped with the direction of the grain, then a towel dry after use to keep it shiny and free of water spots. For tougher stains use a mild abrasive such as Bar Keepers Friend, and remove mineral deposits with vinegar and water. Never use steel wool or bleach, do not leave cleaners in the bowl overnight or wet sponges and soap bars on the steel, wipe up salt, vinegar, citrus and other acidic foods promptly, and do not leave steel or cast iron cookware sitting in the sink. For the included wood cutting board: hand wash it with soapy water right after use, rinse and dry it; do not soak it or put it in the dishwasher or microwave, which warp and crack wood. Disinfect with a vinegar spray, and condition it with mineral oil, a mineral-oil blend or beeswax (never cooking oil, which goes rancid), left to absorb overnight.
