The Nantucket Sinks PR1716-BL is a compact 16.125" single bowl undermount granite composite bar and prep sink in black with metallic flecks, from the Italian-made Plymouth Collection. Nantucket sizes this 17" class bowl as just right for a bar or prep sink: it fits a 24" base cabinet, so it works in a wet bar, a kitchen island prep station or a butler's pantry where a full kitchen sink would not fit.
The 13.25" x 15.625" basin is 7.5" deep, enough to rinse vegetables, fill a pitcher or wash bar glasses without splashing the counter. The 3.5" drain sits at the rear, so it stays clear of whatever is in the bowl and leaves more storage space in the cabinet below, and because the sink mounts under the counter, prep scraps wipe straight in with no rim to catch them.
Like every Plymouth sink, it is designed and made in Italy from a granite composite of 80% natural stone and 20% acrylic polymers. Nantucket rates the material resistant to stains and scratches, with a nonporous surface, able to withstand thermal shock and heat resistant to 560°F, and the stone is naturally sound absorbing, which keeps the clatter of dishes and running water down. Its care guide still asks for a trivet under any pan hotter than 500°F, since a pan straight off a burner can exceed 1000°F.
At 16.125" x 17" overall and 15 lbs, the PR1716 is the bar and prep companion to the larger Plymouth kitchen sinks, offered in the same colors, so an island prep sink can match the main sink exactly. There are no faucet holes; a bar or prep faucet mounts on the countertop.
Installing the PR1716
Nantucket's undermount guide asks the fabricator to follow it and local building and plumbing codes, to space the clips evenly around the sink, loosely tighten, adjust and then tighten them, and to cut the counter flush or with a 1/8" to 1/4" overhang; a 1/4" overhang is recommended because it hides the silicone, which is not included. The undermount clips come in the box, and the spec sheet confirms them. When the drain goes in, the sheet asks that it be tightened by hand so it is not overtightened and does not crack the sink; Nantucket lists the NS35LCC flip-top crumb cup drain and the 3.5EDF-BRS and 3.5EDF-ORB extended flanges for this bar sink.
Nantucket introduces the Plymouth Collection as a new series of granite composite sinks, likening it to a new arrival on a rocky shore from the old world. Every model is crafted in Italy from 80% natural stone in neutral tones, white, black, titanium, brown, truffle and sand across the range, and the line runs from compact bar and prep bowls through large single bowls to low divide double bowls and workstation models with fitted accessories, so a main kitchen sink and a second prep sink can share one material and one color.
Caring for Granite Composite
Day to day, the PR1716 sink asks for little: clean it after use with warm water, a liquid detergent and a soft cloth, and wipe tea, coffee and juice up promptly so they do not set. Nantucket's care guide asks you not to cut directly on the surface, to skip harsh abrasives and metal pads, and to keep alcohol, gasoline, acids and solvents away from the stone. In hard water areas, lime build-up comes off by covering the bottom of the bowl with vinegar and water for several hours, then scrubbing with the stiff side of a sponge and rinsing.
If an island, wet bar or butler's pantry needs a second sink in black, the PR1716-BL is the Nantucket Sinks 16" granite composite bar sink that matches the larger Plymouth kitchen sinks in stone and color.
Black With Metallic Flecks
The PR1716-BL is cast in classic black with metallic flecks spread through its matte surface, which Nantucket calls an eye-catching statement color. The flecking gives the dark stone visible depth instead of a flat, painted look.
Matching Black Plymouth Pieces
Black is also offered in the 24" PR2418-BL, the 30" PR3018-BL, the 33" PR3320-BL-UM and the PR6040-BL double bowl, so a main sink and a bar, prep or second sink can share one stone and one color across the home.
Rear Drain Frees Cabinet Space
The 3.5" drain sits at the rear of the bowl, so the drain plumbing runs closer to the wall. Nantucket notes this leaves more under-counter space for storage.
Takes a Full-Size 3.5" Drain
The opening is a standard 3.5" kitchen size rather than a small bar drain, so a full basket strainer or the NS35LCC flip-top crumb cup drain fits, and 3.5EDF extended flanges are listed as optional parts.
80% Natural Stone Composite
Made in Italy from 80% natural stone and 20% acrylic polymers, the composite resists stains and scratches from everyday pots, pans and utensils, with a nonporous surface, so the matte finish keeps its look with normal care.
Heat and Thermal Shock Rated
Nantucket says the material can withstand thermal shocks and temperatures up to 560°F. Its care guide still asks for a trivet under any pan hotter than 500°F and advises avoiding very hot and very cold together.
Naturally Quieter Stone
Stone is naturally sound absorbing, so running water and clattering dishes are muffled, which Nantucket notes makes for a quieter kitchen. That matters most in an open-plan room where the sink faces the living space.
Clean Undermount Edge
Mounted beneath the countertop with the included clips, the sink leaves an uninterrupted counter edge, so crumbs and spills sweep straight into the bowl with no raised rim in the way.
Sold separately: 3.5" drain (NS35LCC flip-top crumb cup drain in brushed stainless), 3.5EDF-BRS or 3.5EDF-ORB extended flange.
Installation
This is an undermount sink that mounts beneath the countertop. Undermount clips are included; they are spaced evenly around the sink, set loosely, adjusted, then tightened. Nantucket's installation guide calls for professional installation, and its undermount guide asks the installer to follow local building and plumbing codes. The counter can be cut flush with the bowl or with a 1/8" to 1/4" overhang; a 1/4" overhang is recommended because it hides the silicone, which is not included. It needs a 24" minimum base cabinet. There are no faucet holes, so the faucet mounts on the countertop. The 3.5" rear drain opening takes a standard 3.5" drain, sold separately; tighten the drain by hand, since overtightening can crack the sink. The Undermount installation guide is in Resources.
Care
Clean the sink after each use with warm water, a liquid detergent and a soft cloth, and wipe up tea, coffee and juice promptly. Nantucket's care guide says not to set anything hotter than 500°F on the sink (a pan straight off a burner can exceed 1000°F), so use a trivet or potholder, and avoid thermal shock from very hot and very cold together. Do not cut on the surface, and keep harsh abrasives, metal pads, alcohol, gasoline, acids and solvents off it. For lime build-up, cover the bottom with vinegar and water for several hours, then scrub with the stiff side of a sponge and rinse.
