The Nantucket Sinks Wellfleet-31OSW is a 31.25" white fireclay double bowl kitchen sink in a 60/40 split with a low divider, and it can be installed as a drop-in or an undermount. It is for a cook who wants to organize cleanup and prep in two bowls but still fit a large pan across both, and it comes complete with 2 bottom grids and 2 basket strainer drains.
The large bowl measures 17" x 16" and the small bowl 11.25" x 16", both 7.5" deep, inside a 31.25" x 18.25" x 8.75" sink. The low divider gives easy clearance, so long cookware and bakeware can rest across both sides, and each bowl has its own 3.5" drain opening.
Nantucket fires the sink in a kiln for 15 hours, so the high gloss white glaze is durable and scratch resistant and resists stains, and the glazed top edge allows a reveal mount. Fireclay needs fewer cleansers than other materials. Dimensions are nominal, varying by about 1/4", the exterior walls have a slight 1/8" taper, and small cracks on the unglazed underside from curing are cosmetic only.
It is the double-bowl member of the apronless Wellfleet range, which also includes the single-bowl Wellfleet-3419, Wellfleet-3218W and Wellfleet-2719W and the 18" square Wellfleet-1818.
Fit, Mounting and Plumbing
Because it is a dual-mount fireclay sink rather than an apron front, it can sit on a standard cabinet: it needs a base cabinet of at least 33", a 2x4 support frame inside to carry its weight (72 lbs), and room behind it for the faucet (it has no faucet holes, so the faucet goes on the countertop or the wall). The drain opening takes a standard kitchen drain. The countertop opening is cut from the actual sink.
Caring for Fireclay
Fireclay is fired at high temperature under a glaze that lets food stains wipe away and will not rust. Day to day it needs only a mild cleaner and a soft cloth; Nantucket suggests baking soda for stuck-on food, Soft Scrub or a Scotch-Brite sponge for a rare mark, and a little carnauba wax now and then. Nantucket's fireclay care guide calls the material easy and low maintenance, and in hard water areas a quick dry with a cloth prevents spotting.
Whether it is the main sink or a second prep or bar sink, the Nantucket Sinks Wellfleet-31OSW brings the look and easy care of a fireclay kitchen sink to a kitchen that wants a clean, apronless profile.
60/40 Bowls, Low Divider
A 17" x 16" main bowl and an 11.25" x 16" second bowl split washing and rinsing, while the low divider lets long pans lie across both.
2 Grids and 2 Drains Included
Two bottom grids and two basket strainer drains ship with the sink, one set for each bowl, so nothing else is needed to start.
Drop-In or Undermount
The dual-mount design can be topmounted with its rim on the counter or undermounted below stone, with the glazed top edge left visible for a reveal mount.
Kiln-Fired Gloss Glaze
Fired for 15 hours, the high gloss white glaze is durable, scratch resistant and resists stains through daily use.
Fits a 33" Cabinet
Nantucket recommends a 33" minimum cabinet width for the 31.25" sink, the size of many standard sink bases.
Easy-Clean Natural Material
Fireclay is a natural, eco-friendly material that needs fewer cleansers, and the glossy glaze wipes clean with a mild cleaner and a soft cloth.
Sold separately: NS35L-EXT basket strainer drain for fireclay sinks, 3.5EDF-BRS extended drain flange in brushed stainless, 3.5EDF-ORB extended drain flange in oil rubbed bronze.
Installation
This dual-mount sink can be installed as a drop-in (topmount) or an undermount, and Nantucket recommends a 33" minimum cabinet width. The installer supports it on a 2x4 frame in the cabinet, takes the countertop cutout from the actual sink, and leaves room behind it for the faucet, since there are no faucet holes. Each bowl has a 3.5" drain opening for the included basket strainers; tighten each drain by hand so it is never over-tightened. Professional installation is recommended.
Care
Clean the fireclay regularly with a mild cleaner and a soft cloth or non-abrasive sponge, then rinse; in hard water areas, dry it with a cloth to prevent spotting. Soak stuck-on food to loosen it, using baking soda if needed, and lift a rare surface stain with Soft Scrub or a Scotch-Brite sponge. An occasional coat of carnauba wax adds protection and helps water run off. Fireclay contains no metal, so it will not rust. Fireclay is stain resistant and low maintenance, and the drain should never be over-tightened.
