Twelve needles that follow the surface

Twelve needles that follow the surface

Inside the straight body a light piston strikes an anvil 3800 times a minute, and the anvil drives twelve 3mm chisel tip needles. Each needle moves on its own, so the bundle settles into pits, weld ripples and rivet edges instead of bridging across them.

That makes the 12 Inline a cleanup tool for small, uneven areas: around brackets, along fillet welds and on castings where a grinder would leave the low spots untouched.

Find answers below or contact our support team.

What size air compressor does the 12 Inline need?

Novatek rates the 12 Inline at 4 cfm (113 lpm) of air, and the tool is meant to run at 90 psi at the inlet. Use a 3/8" bore airline, keep the run to about 50' where you can, and put a filter, regulator and lubricator in the line so the air reaches the tool clean, dry and oiled.

How do I convert the 12 Inline from needles to a chisel?

Disconnect the air, loosen the cap head screw and lift off the tube assembly with the needles, holder, anvil and spring. Thread the 1/2" square chisel holder onto the body, tighten the screw, then turn the knurled collar to lock a chisel in place. The chisel scaler and the kit include the holder; the needle scaler alone does not.

What do I do as the needles wear shorter?

Loosen the cap head screw and slide the front tube back so that about 1" of needle protrudes again, then retighten it. Keeping that length exposed keeps the stroke hitting the work instead of the tube.

Does the 12 Inline need oiling?

Yes. Put three drops of light machine oil into the air inlet before you start, and run an inline lubricator if you have one. Novatek's manual notes that running its scalers without air preparation could void the warranty.

Can I use the 12 Inline around flammable material?

No. Novatek says the 12 Inline is not built for explosive atmospheres or for work close to flammable materials, and a steel needle striking steel can spark. Wear hearing and eye protection and a dust mask suited to the coating you are removing.

Which needles does the 12 Inline take?

It ships with 3mm x 7" chisel tip needles. A 2mm needle holder is available for finer work, and the kit includes one along with a pack of 2mm flat tip needles.
