3M heavy-duty Type C flaps

3M heavy-duty Type C flaps

The RotoPeen flap hub holds six 3M Type C flaps in six slots. A and B retaining pins alternate around the hub, so each flap sits about 1/4" offset from its neighbor and the strikes overlap as the hub turns counterclockwise.

That staggered pattern peens the surface to a 2 to 3 mil profile while stripping 20 to 25 mil of coating, with the shroud and vacuum taking the debris. Keep both rollers on the work so the hub holds its depth and the flaps wear evenly.

Find answers below or contact our support team.

Where do the flaps fit on the RotoPeen?

Type C flaps sit in the six slots of the RotoPeen flap hub, held by A and B retaining pins that stagger alternate flaps by about 1/4".

Which way do the flaps face?

Fit each flap with its printing facing the direction of rotation, which is counterclockwise, and alternate the A and B pins so neighboring flaps sit offset for smooth, overlapping coverage.

Flaps or star cutters?

Flaps leave a 2 to 3 mil profile similar to blasting and suit 20 to 25 mil of coating removal. For coatings of 25 mil and more, epoxy non-skid or concrete scarifying, Novatek recommends the star cutter hub instead.

How do I avoid tearing flaps?

Keep both rollers on the work surface, never run the tool over an edge, and feed the air model through a 3/8" air plug: a smaller plug starves the motor and can cause flap failure.
