The Novair 1000 and 2000 filter in three stages. The pad pre-filter catches the bulk of the dust, the two-ply ring filter behind it catches what gets past the pad, and the last stage is either the HEPA filter or the 5 micron general purpose filter.
The Novair 2000 takes the 24" x 24" pad, ring and general purpose filters. The Novair 1000 takes the 16" x 16" versions, and Novatek also lists the 16" x 16" pad and ring filters for the Novair 700. The ring filter is the same 16" x 16" part on the Novair 1000 Variable Speed.
Change the pad pre-filter first. If the pressure gauge still reads high with a fresh pad, inspect the ring filter, and only then the HEPA or general purpose filter. Keeping the disposable front stages fresh protects the final filter.
Novatek fits the 5 micron general purpose filter as the last stage when the job is cutting visible airborne dust that is not hazardous; work that calls for HEPA filtration needs the HEPA filter there. The general purpose filter sits in its own frame: the Standard Filter models of the Novair 1000 and 2000 ship with one, and a HEPA machine needs Novatek's general purpose conversion kit first.
No. Novatek treats them as disposable: remove the loaded filter, dispose of it as your site rules require, and fit a new one. Wear protective equipment when the dust is hazardous.
