Toothed wheels that strike the surface

Toothed wheels that strike the surface

Star and beam cutters are carbon steel wheels stacked loose on the axles of the RotoPeen star cutter hub. As the hub turns, the wheels strike the work and break up coatings, rust and scale rather than sanding them. Star cutters have sharp pointed teeth; beam cutters have blunt square teeth.

Stars bite harder for thick coatings and concrete scarifying, while beams remove less per pass and last longer, which suits mid-level removal. Many crews keep both on hand.

Got Questions?

Find answers below or contact our support team.

Where do these fit on the RotoPeen?

Star and beam cutters stack on the axles of the RotoPeen star cutter hub, which fits the 2" and 4" air and the 2" electric tools; the 4" electric does not take cutters. Cutters and axles are replaced together as a set.

How often should I check the cutters?

Inspect the hub and cutters at least every 50 hours or weekly, and replace wheels and axles that show wear or damage. Remove the shroud end plate and flush out debris at the same time.

Star cutters or beam cutters?

Star cutters, with sharp pointed teeth, are the more aggressive choice for heavy coatings, epoxy non-skid and concrete scarifying. Beam cutters have blunt square teeth, take less per pass and last longer, which suits mid-level coating removal and lighter concrete preparation.

Can I run cutters and flaps on the same job?

Yes. On heavy coatings, run a star cutter hub first to break up the bulk of the material, then swap to a hub of 3M Type C flaps to bring the surface to profile. Only the hub changes between passes.
