Stripping steel with the debris contained

The RotoPeen spins its hub inside a closed shroud, so paint, rust and mill scale break away inside the housing instead of spraying across the work area. A 1.5" port on the shroud hands that debris straight to a vacuum hose while the tool is still cutting.

For a crew, that means stripping doors, beams and plate with the waste going into the vacuum bag rather than onto the floor, which turns cleanup into a bag change.

Rollers hold the hub at depth

Rollers hold the hub at depth

Two rollers on the shroud ride on the work and set how far the hub reaches, so the flaps or cutters strike evenly as the tool is guided along. Keep both rollers in contact with the surface at all times; lifting the tool or running it off an edge can tear the flaps.

Steady passes with the rollers down give a uniform finish across a door or panel and protect the abrasive, which keeps flap and cutter use predictable over a long job.

Concrete floors as well as steel

Concrete floors as well as steel

The same shrouded head that strips steel also scarifies concrete. Fit the star cutter hub and its toothed wheels chip away mastic, epoxy and other coatings while the vacuum port pulls the dust off the slab as the rollers carry the tool forward.

The electric models run on a standard 120 V, 10 amp circuit, so floor preparation can go ahead indoors where a large compressor is impractical. The 2" model is the lighter choice for walls; the 4" covers floors faster.

Got Questions?

Find answers below or contact our support team.

Should I run flaps or star cutters?

Use the 3M Type C flaps when you want a blast-like profile on steel: Novatek rates the flap setup for 20 to 25 mil of coating removal and a 2 to 3 mil profile. Switch to the carbon steel star cutter hub for heavy coatings, epoxy non-skid and concrete scarifying, where cutters are recommended for 25 mil and up.

What air supply does the air RotoPeen need?

At least 30 cfm of clean, dry air at 90 psi, delivered through a 3/8" hose to the tool's 3/8" quick-connect plug. A smaller plug starves the motor and can cause flap failure. An inline filter is required and a lubricator is recommended.

Is the 4" RotoPeen available electric with star cutters?

No. The 4" electric model comes with flaps only, and there is no 4" electric kit. Choose the 4" air model for star cutters on the wide head, or the 2" electric model for cutters on mains power.

Do I need a vacuum to run it?

The shroud has a standard 1.5" vacuum port, and Novatek describes the tool as dust-free when it is connected to a compatible vacuum system. Pair it with a HEPA vacuum whenever the coating or dust is hazardous.

Can it work on pipe or curved steel?

Yes. The rollers let the head follow curved surfaces and piping, and the compact shroud works to within 1.5" of a wall. Keep both rollers on the surface and avoid running off an edge.

What routine maintenance does it need?

On air models, oil the air inlet daily with a light machine oil and add gear lube to the gear head. Every 50 hours or weekly, remove the shroud end plate, flush out debris and check the hub and its flaps or cutters for wear. Electric gear cases need no routine lubrication.
