The SRAT's floating shroud conforms to the work surface on a replaceable nylon skirt and keeps its vacuum seal as the grinder moves, while the disc spins inside it. A vacuum port on the shroud pulls dust out of the enclosure as it is made.
That lets a crew grind coatings and rust from steel or concrete with a HEPA vacuum carrying the dust away, rather than sweeping it up after every pass.
The floating dust shroud on the SRAT moves with the work, so the skirt stays down on plate, beams and slabs as the operator changes angle. The skirt is a disposable nylon wear part that takes the abrasion, which protects the cast aluminum shroud and keeps the seal tight.
When the skirt wears, replace it rather than the shroud; it keeps the housing in service and the dust capture at full strength.
Each disc size comes with two drives. The air grinder runs a 1.2 hp motor at 5500 RPM on 30 cfm at 90 psi, and the electric grinder runs at 0-3000 RPM on a 110/120 V, 10 amp supply.
Pick air where a compressor is already on site or electric power is restricted near the work; pick electric for indoor jobs on a standard circuit, where its variable speed lets you match different abrasives.

The 5" grinder is lighter, 6.5 lbs in air and 10 lbs electric, and easier to handle in tight spots and overhead. The 7" covers more surface per pass on larger flat areas, at 7.5 lbs air or 11.5 lbs electric.
At least 30 cfm at 90 psi through a 3/8" or larger hose with a matching 3/8" quick-connect plug. A smaller inlet plug will not supply enough air for the grinder to work properly. Use clean, dry air with an inline lubricator.
The spindle has a standard 5/8"-11 arbor, so the grinder takes a wide range of backing pads and discs. Run each abrasive at the speed its maker recommends.
Yes. It runs on 110/120 V; Novatek asks for a 10 amp supply. Keep extension cords to 50' or less and use heavy-duty cord.
Replace the nylon wear skirt when it wears down, and clean the shroud at least every 50 hours of use or weekly. A worn skirt lets the shroud lose contact with the surface.
Any vacuum that fits the shroud's vacuum port will collect the dust; use a HEPA vacuum when the dust is hazardous. Novatek builds its 3.3 gal backpack and 15 gal floor HEPA vacuums to run with its shrouded tools.
