Less vibration, same 28-needle stroke

Less vibration, same 28-needle stroke

The VRS 28PG puts the heavy 28PG needle bundle inside a vibration reduced pistol grip body. Twenty-eight 3mm chisel tip needles hit at 2200 bpm, while the hand-arm vibration Novatek publishes for concrete and steel is 2.3 m/s².

That lets an operator stay on pack rust, mill scale and thick paint for longer stretches, with less of the buzz that a conventional scaler sends into the wrists and forearms over a shift.

Got Questions?

Find answers below or contact our support team.

How does the VRS 28PG compare with the standard 28PG?

Both drive twenty-eight 3mm needles at 2200 bpm. The VRS version adds a vibration reduced body rated at 2.3 m/s², is 16.5" long, weighs 8 lbs and draws 10 cfm, against 7.5 cfm for the standard 28PG needle scaler.

What air supply does the VRS 28PG need?

Plan on 10 cfm at 90 psi, and keep the pressure between 80 and 100 psi while working. Use a 3/8" bore airline, keep it to about 50' where you can, and fit a filter, regulator and lubricator with a moisture trap ahead of the tool.

How do I replace the needles?

Shut off and disconnect the air, unscrew the front tube assembly while holding it tilted down so the internal parts stay put, pull out the needle holder and replace all of the needles. Slide the holder back in, check the spring is seated and the needles pass through the center, then tighten the tube.

Can the VRS 28PG run a chisel?

Yes, once it is set up for it. Novatek's manual lists an anvil and a 1/2" square chisel holder for the VRS 28PG, and the anvil must be fitted before the chisel holder will run. Neither part ships with this needle scaler.

What routine maintenance does it need?

Put a few drops of light machine oil into the air inlet every day the tool runs. Every 100 hours, or sooner if it turns sluggish, flush it with a suitable solvent, oil it again straight away and replace the 6mm ball.

Is there a dust shroud for this scaler?

Novatek builds the shrouded version as the 28PG VSE VRS, which pairs the vibration reduced body with a vacuum shroud and take-off for connection to a HEPA vacuum. This VRS 28PG is the open-nose needle scaler.
