The EX1 motor and starter sit inside an explosion-proof enclosure, and every metal part of the body is non-sparking stainless steel bonded to ground. Dust drawn off the floor passes through washable conductive filters and a HEPA stage rated 99.995% at 0.3 µm before the air leaves the unit.
It collects dry material only. Plan on a separate liquid-rated machine if your spills include solvents or wet slurry.
The 1.5" x 10' suction hose, double bend wand, floor tool, round brush and crevice tool are all static dissipating and ESD safe, so the ground path runs unbroken from the nozzle to the tank.
Keep using PrestiVac-supplied hoses and tools. A standard shop hose breaks that ground path and takes the unit out of its certified configuration.
PrestiVac builds its vacuums in solid stainless steel with no painted parts, in electric and air-operated versions, as compact drums, 45-gallon drums and removable-tank carts. The EX1 is the electric line, with tanks from 7 to 45 gallons.
Plants without dependable compressed air usually choose the electric EX1. Sites where any electrical device is unwelcome look at the air-operated AV1 models instead.

It is CSA certified to UL 1203 for Class I, Division 1, Group D and Class II, Division 1, Groups E, F and G, temperature code T3C. In practice that means propane-group (Group D) vapors and metal, carbon, grain or plastic dust areas. Check your own area classification before you buy.
A 15 A explosion-proof plug ships with the unit for Class I locations and Class II Group F and G locations. It is not supplied for Group E. The CSA certificate requires the attachment plug to be certified and rated for the location where the vacuum is used, so confirm it matches your area classification.
No. The EX1 is built for dry collection only. Wet or solvent pickup needs a different machine.
A standard grounded 120V, 60Hz outlet. The motor is rated 10A and 1000W, and the unit is cord-connected and grounded.
Use the PrestiVac static-dissipating hose and tools. Third-party hoses and tools can break the ground path and void the certified configuration.
