The SteamSpa SS-SAP001-XX is a single aroma pump system in black that injects essential oil into your steam line, so the steam arrives at the steamhead already scented. It is for steam shower owners who want the aroma on tap, at the push of a button inside the shower, instead of adding drops to the steamhead by hand before every session.
The pump draws oil from its container and doses it into a 3/4" three-way valve on the steam pipe. A temperature-controlled switch on the pipe lets it run only once the pipe reaches 194°F, so oil is never pumped into a cold line, and you set how long each dose lasts, from 1 to 9 seconds, and the pause between doses, from 1 to 10 minutes. Press the pneumatic button in the shower to start it, or leave the button on and the pipe switch runs it automatically.
SteamSpa's manual describes three ways to run its aroma pumps; the single SS-SAP001-XX runs from the pneumatic button working with the temperature switch, or from the pump's own ON/OFF, SET and arrow keys, while control from a steam panel is reserved for the double pump. The controller remembers its settings after a power cut.
Mounting and Power
The pump, display and container mount on a black steel plate 11.89" wide x 11.57" high and 3.74" deep that hangs on two screws, and it runs on 120V AC at no more than 6 W. SteamSpa says it works with any steam bath generator system. Oil bottles are sold separately, including SteamSpa's 1000 ml eucalyptus, tea tree, peppermint, lavender and lemongrass oils.
If you want two scents on tap, SteamSpa also makes the double pump SS-DAP001-XX, which runs two containers from the steam control panel; the single SS-SAP001-XX is the push-button choice, and it runs a few seconds at a time so the scent stays gentle rather than heavy.
First Use and Safe Use
On the first run the hose is full of air, so SteamSpa has you set the run time to 9 seconds and restart the pump about 4 times until oil reaches the valve. In standby the display shows two dashes, while dosing it counts down with the ON light lit, and between doses the OFF light shows the time to the next cycle.
Use essential oils only, and do not over-pump oil into the injector. SteamSpa asks owners to post its aroma warning inside the steam room: anyone who has difficulty breathing or irritation of the eyes, nose or throat should leave at once. For push-button aroma in a SteamSpa or other steam shower, the SS-SAP001-XX single aroma pump delivers it straight through the steam line.
Push-Button Aroma in the Shower
A pneumatic button set in the steam room wall turns the aroma on and off with a press, with no electrical switch inside the wet room.
Doses Only When the Steam Is Hot
A temperature-controlled switch on the copper steam pipe closes at 194°F, so the pump only runs while steam is flowing to the steamhead.
Adjustable Dose and Interval
Set each dose from 1 to 9 seconds and the pause between doses from 1 to 10 minutes on the LED controller to make the scent lighter or stronger.
Injects Straight Into the Steam Line
The included 3/4" three-way valve has an oil injection port and fits a 3/4" steam pipe directly, or a 1/2" pipe with an adapter.
Low-Power Plug-In Unit
The pump runs on 120V AC, 50/60Hz at 6 W or less and plugs into a GFCI-protected, grounded socket near the generator.
Remembers Your Settings
The controller keeps its dose and interval settings after a power failure, so the scent comes back the same way every session.
Works With Any Steam Generator
SteamSpa rates the pump for any steam bath generator system, so it can add aroma to an existing steam shower as well as a new SteamSpa install.
Sold separately: Aroma oil bottles (SteamSpa 1000 ml G-OILEUC100, G-OILTEATREE1K, G-OILPEPM1000, G-OILLAV1000, G-OILLEM100), Beam clamp and insulation mat for the temperature switch
Installation
Professional installation is highly recommended, and the wiring must be handled by a qualified electrician. Mount the pump indoors on a vertical surface in a dry, non-freezing spot out of reach of children, on two ST5 x 20 screws 7.87" apart about 59" above the floor, not above or below the generator and at least 19.68" from it (or behind thermal insulation), where the air stays under 140°F. Fit the 3/4" three-way valve on the steam pipe within 8.2' of the steamhead with the port facing up and PTFE tape on the threads. Clamp the temperature switch on a copper steam pipe over an insulation pad, set the pneumatic button in a 1.26" hole about 59" up the steam room wall, keep the oil hoses out of areas above 140°F, and plug the pump into a GFCI-protected grounded socket. On first use, run 9-second doses about 4 times to purge air from the hose.
Care
Unplug the pump before any maintenance. Keep the container topped up with essential oil only: water-soluble perfumes or perfumes containing acetaldehyde can damage the pump, and the oil is flammable, so keep it sealed and away from flames. If no scent reaches the steamhead, check that the motor runs, the tank has oil and the hoses are not blocked or kinked.
